Frequently asked questions and answers

General Questions

The Referral Platform is designed for users within the Engel & Völkers Network. Initially it was used by real estate advisors and shops in Germany, Austria and Spain and with select cooperation partners in those countries. It is now being expanded to include real estate advisors and shops across the network, including more European countries, Dubai and in the Americas.

Participating advisors and license partners in the Engel & Völkers network can use the Referral Platform to place, accept and close referrals once platform functionality is fully launched. Advisors and license partners/shop leaders can also use the platform’s dashboard to monitor their personal or shop-level referral activity.

It depends on the country you are operating in. In Germany you can refer to Engel & Völkers Finance Germany, Engel & Völkers Work Edition, Engel & Völkers Liquid Home Germany, Engel & Völkers Land and Forestry and Engel & Völkers Residential. In Austria, you can refer to Engel & Völkers Liquid Home and in Spain to Engel & Völkers Finance Spain. We also cooperate with the rest of Engel & Völkers Residential in the EMEA region and all franchisees in the Engel & Völkers Americas Network.

Yes, the Referral Platform is available as a web app and can be accessed directly via your browser on any device – no installation required. It offers an optimized user experience on smartphones, tablets, and desktops.

Questions about Referrals

For international referrals: Once you have connected with the appropriate referral recipient and agreed on the referral fee, simply follow the prompts in the Referral Platform to enter the client information and click “Submit” to record it. Going forward, it will appear in the referral dashboard of the referral sender and the recipient.

Besides the client's name, address, and contact information, which are always required, you should have various information about the property ready. The requested data varies depending on the referral target.

For international referrals: Along with the client's name, address, and contact information (which are always required), you should have the address of any listing being referred, or for buyer referrals, the search area and customer’s estimated price maximum. You should also include any additional specifics that will be helpful to the receiving advisor. At the end of the form, you may also designate an advisor in the destination shop who you would like to have work on the referral.

Your referral fee is based on the successful completion of a referral. The exact referral fee is determined according to the agreed fee structure and the partner company's terms. You can find this information in the respective referral terms and conditions, available on the partner pages after logging in.

For international referrals the referral fee percentage is negotiable between the originating and receiving companies.

Under the menu item Referral Overview, you will find a list of all submitted referrals and their processing status, as well as any referral fees from successfully closed referral transactions.

The processing time is influenced by many factors. Besides the readiness of the referred client to close, external factors also play a role. The duration until completion can therefore range from a few weeks to several months.

For residential referrals: Once a property is in contract (or the local equivalent of a signed, accepted offer), the time it takes to close and pay a referral is influenced by many factors. In addition to the readiness of the referred client to close, standard local processes and specific transaction complexities all play a role. The time from contract until closing and the release of referral funds therefore can vary significantly and can be quite lengthy. Stay in contact with the referral recipient for pertinent updates.

No, communication with the company that received your referral is not possible through the Referral Platform beyond the submission itself. You may continue to communicate with the recipient through Engel & Völkers email and chat, or phone calls and texts. As a general practice, referral recipients should keep the referring advisor informed on the status of the referral regularly.

Before you click the "Submit" button at the end, changing the data for a referral is always possible. Simply go back in the process and change any fields necessary. Once a referral is submitted, the information recorded in the Referral Platform cannot be changed. It is therefore important to ensure that all information entered, especially the client data and the referral fee is correct and complete.
